About This Spot

Tucked a bit off the main drag on N Jackson Ave in San Jose, Chef P's Restaurant welcomes you like a familiar neighborhood retreat. It’s the kind of place where the pace slows down just enough to savor a comforting meal — not rushed, but warm and unpretentious. Families gather around generous tables, sharing moments and plates without fuss, while the steady hum of kitchen activity softly fills the background.

The atmosphere carries the quiet energy of a beloved mom-and-pop spot: welcoming, sincere, with the kind of genuine hospitality that makes you feel personally looked after. The dining room’s relaxed rhythm invites conversation, and the familiar faces behind the counter bring a level of care that goes beyond service. It’s a spot where many find both comfort and connection, a local gem for those who appreciate traditional flavors with a personal touch.

At the heart of Chef P’s experience is the food — straightforward, hearty, and thoughtfully prepared. Whether you’re indulging in crispy calamari with just the right crunch or savoring the balance of a sweet and sour shrimp dish, each bite reflects a quiet dedication to familiar Chinese favorites. The kitchen’s variations on chow mein, rice dishes, and subtly seasoned stir-fries show a respect for homestyle cooking, inviting diners to rediscover those satisfying, nostalgic flavors that feel like a warm welcome home.

This is not the place for flashy presentations or rapid-fire trends. Instead, it’s a space where comfort is king and honest flavors draw you back time and again. Families and friends often linger here, sharing plates and stories under soft lighting, enjoying a simple celebration of food and togetherness. If you’re seeking a genuine neighborhood refuge with a menu that carries both heart and a little history, Chef P’s quietly holds its own in the fabric of San Jose’s local dining scene.

Great mom n pop spot, Ms. Tammy took my order, she was very pleasant and dutiful, she so fine. Tasty dishes, parking is a lil sketch either side but place seats large families.

We got Calamari, Salt & peppers Chicken wings, Beef Chow fun, Shrimps Fried rice, and Chicken Chow Mein. I would definitely come back for the crispy fried calamari. I like the Fried Rice and Chow Fun, but the Chow Mein was really bland. The Salt & Peppers Fried Chickens have too much batter and needed more seasoning.

My family and I have been going here for years. I've always loved this place soo much. The food today was very different. One of the main reasons that I used to love Chef P's is for their thick chow mein noodles. They were delicious. I'm not a fan of the tiny Panda Express chow mein noodles, they're not very satisfying. Well now Chef P's has thinner noodles, not too thin but not as deliciously thick as the old ones. The orange chicken was very sweet and delicious. The whole meal was great. I'm a lil disappointed in the salt and pepper fish it used to be a light thin piece of batter fries fish with jalapenos and yummy seasoning. Now it's a very thick dry well seasoned piece of fish. The service was AMAZING! The young man running the register was a super thoughtful, sweet man. Overall the food is delicious I just couldn't give it 5 stars because I miss the old food. Everything else is great and I highly recommend this place.

Owner and their family is amazing!!! So quick and freshhh! I love it here. Their Chinese food is absolutely delicious! I had a large order and she helped me take the items to my car bc it was just myself. Spicy chow main is my favorite!! Flavor is always there!

Drove all the way from Sacramento to have their fried squid. DID NOT disappoint. Can't wait to go back.

Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. We drove from Central valley to try this restaurant. Every was perfect. Service was amazing and off course so was the food. But what really nice was the owner Lloyd came out to greet us and even sat with us and had a little chat with my family. We are definitely going back to enjoy this amazing place. Thanks Lloyd
